July 4th Yea, Fireworks Nay

What a week! A free day off for Dad and a chance to celebrate our country's birth and the wonderful freedoms we hold as citizens of this great nation. We played hard over the weekend, spending time swimming and making treats to fit the occasion. Steven and the kids spent Friday morning at the zoo and we ended our days chasing them at the park - thanks to the gift of low humidity that came to us over the weekend.

The only downfall that comes with this holiday is the fact that the girls fear fireworks. Our neighbor puts on a large show each year and until now each year has gone something like this: Steven gets himself and Thatcher set up with a fun movie and treats. The girls and I cross the street, set our lawn chairs out (a large distance from the show) and settle in for all to begin. The first firework is set off into the night sky and then you see two little girls run for their home proclaiming, "we'll watch from the playroom window". This year was a little different. Ryley packed up her lawn chair and headed home before the fireworks even appeared and Kadyn actually made it through a large portion of the festivities. Granted, her hands were covering her ears the entire time, but still she made it. Steven and I are indifferent either way. If our kids enjoy the lights and sounds, great. If they don't, that's alright too. With or without fireworks - it was a holiday weekend to remember.
